George Orwell's novel 1984 described how books were being continually rewritten to make sure they reflected the current ideology of the government. Old books were destroyed to prevent people from reading their point of view. Recent trends in Australia have caused some people to ask whether we are losing our proud tradition of freedom of thought. This paper questions whether some libraries are becoming instruments of propaganda.
